- the first night
the floor kept alive
The Hacker Factor. One idea from the city, turned into one working app in a day, live on a room full of screens. DJs from the first hour building toward a headliner at night, painters around the perimeter all day, the room running the app on their phones and telling the teams what they think while it is still being built, money moving in public. Community solutions through technology and art.
A day with a shape
A day of building is a long time to hold a room. Code, on its own, is quiet to watch. A room moving through a day, with someone carrying it from one moment to the next, is a show. These are the moments.
- 12:00Doors
The room walks into builds two hours in. Somebody sets the scene.
- All dayThe commentary
One voice translating the build for a room that has never watched anybody build anything. Runs like a match.
- 14:00The break
Teams off the floor, the room comes to them. Movement, DJ sets.
- 20:00The turn
Building stops. The boards honor the night, then a credits roll. Dance, spoken word, the hour between the bell and the band.
- Before 22:20The final ask
Somebody holds the room while the pot moves in front of everyone.
- 22:20The reveal
The headliner announces the app, every team on stage. Somebody has to land it.
What the room looks like

Everyone is paid a share
Nobody is paid a fee and everybody is paid a share. Sponsorship covers hard costs, a base pool covers every person who works the night, and the surplus splits with the teams. Your line is in your letter and on the ledger, in public. Everything you do is carried live, and the first night is the one that gets replayed.
Who we are looking for
Performers who hold a room for what it is doing, and who want to be part of the giving. Each moment in the day above needs somebody whose craft is a room full of people. These are the seats.
The host
12:00 and 22:20Somebody who can make four hundred people feel a build they cannot read, and land the moment the city hears what it built. The hardest seat on the night.
The voice of the floor
All dayOne voice translating the build for a room that has never watched anybody build anything, in the room and on the stream. It runs like a match.
DJs
10:00 to the bellThe music runs from the first hour, each set building toward the headliner. One long arc, several hands, and the break and the turn are its two peaks.
Dancers and movement
The break and the turnBodies in the room while the teams are off the floor, and again when building stops.
Spoken word
The turnOne piece between the bell and the band, about what the city asked for.
Whoever holds the final ask
Before 22:20The pot moves in front of everyone. Someone has to hold the room while it does.
The crew is built from whoever makes this one land. Name the moment: name, what you do, where to see it, which moment above is yours.
What it gives back
The room you are holding is a city giving back. The idea the city voted to the top is being built into a product for the people who live here, and it goes home on Monday with the organization the city chose. Every moment you carry keeps four hundred people in that act together. Hold it well and the night leaves Austin better than it found it.
